Description
What is red Utta?
A shrunken bison leather side with red undertones. Measures 7-8 ounces (7/64″ – 1/8″) in thickness. Excellent for making a nice pair of boots, bags, belts & a variety of other projects. Also available in cut pieces of 3 square feet.

Hey, I’m 100% new to leather crafting. I’m trying to make a sheath for a smaller (4.5in blade) knife. I have read that to wet mold, the leather needs to be vegetable tanned leather. Does this fit that requirement? Also any tips for making doing this project will definitely be taken.
Hey Jonathan! Yes, you want a veg tan leather, and Utta is not that. Under the category 'Leather' in our menu, there is an option for 'Veg Tan Leather.' I recommend just getting a piece of our MTL veg tan leather to start.

How many full hides would I need to give me 8 1/2 to 9 square yards total?
Nine square yards would be 81 sq ft. These hides average 18 sq ft so you would need a total of 5 hides with a bit leftover.
