In this video, Robert Little takes on the task of comparing our Hermann Oak and Import MTL veg tan leather. Do they tool differently? Do the burnish differently? How much of a factor is cost per square foot? These are all questions that Robert hopes to find answers to that many leatherworkers will often ask at some point in their leather crafting journey.
To compare the two leathers, Robert makes a total of four tooled journal covers using Barry King tools: two from each type of veg tan leather. In one set of journal covers, Robert applies only Fiebing’s neatsfoot oil and Resolene. And in the second set, Robert applies neatsfoot oil, Pro-Resist, Antique Finish, and finally Resolene. The results are fascinating for anyone wanting to know, but ultimately it comes down to personal preference as well as cost, so you be the judge!
