Smoked Veg Tan Double Shoulder – Cordovan
Description
A cordovan vegetable tanned double shoulder with pull-up, made through traditional Tuscan tanning methods at Virgilio tannery in Italy. Dyed in a drum and greased with real tallow, giving it a vintage look that will age well into a gorgeous patina. Ideal for various leather goods such as footwear, belts (with lining), wallets, bags and more.
Note that smoked veg tan leather comes with tallow visible on the surface as a thin layer of white. We suggest buffing the tallow in with a light brush or sponge, giving it a vibrant, luxurious look that simply can not be duplicated by other leathers.

This leather is stunning and a head-turner. When you first open the box, you notice an earthy, sweet aroma. As you unroll the leather, you instantly see the white tallow layer; however, a soft cloth or a horsehair brush will easily remove the tallow. A light film will remain after the top layer is removed, giving the leather a satin-like finish. As you use the product, that film will gradually disappear. The leather cuts like butter, and the edges take dye and burnish beautifully. The only drawback is that the leather is slightly heavier than standard 5oz veg tan, which is due to the oils in it. The bag in the photos was made using the olmo and cordovan.

One of my favorites to work with, absolutely love the look and feel. I’ve made several projects with it and it wears great, petinas nicely and gets better as it ages.
